• The red wolf is considered critically endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act.
• There are currently only 17 known Red Wolves left in the wild as of June 2024.
• Due to the destruction of their habitat and persecution by humans, Grey wolves only occupy 10% of the continental US.
• Grey wolves were stripped of federal protections in 2021 and are no longer listed as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act.
• Since the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone in 1995, wolves have shown to be an integral part to a healthy ecosystem including restoring the prey/predator balance, strengthen ungulates, feed other animals, improve riparian areas, decrease coyote populations, etc..
